A true Florida native, I spent the first 23 years of my life in the Sunshine State. Born Kelly April King on April 10, 1975 in Miami, Florida, I'm the only daughter of Linda and James King and little sister
to Jeremy King, five years my senior. Since my parents divorced in the early 80's, my brother and I lived with my mom in the Kendall suburbs of Miami. I attended elementary and junior high school there, as well as my
10th grade year at Miami Killian Senior High. Once my brother departed for college to archrival Florida State University (FSU), my mom and I moved an hour or so north, away from the hubbub of Miami, to Plantation
(near Ft. Lauderdale). There, I spent my last two years of high school at South Plantation High before, just six months after my 17th birthday, I left to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville. Always
bubbling over with creativity (art, writing, music), I opted to attend UF's Fine Arts College, where I majored in Graphic Design. When I first started, graphic design (or commercial art) was still largely traditional -
pen and ink, rather than computer design. But, times they were a'changing, and I was just getting online for the first time. So, it was in the School of Fine Arts that I first got my feet wet in Web design which,
unbeknownst to me at the time, would become Rich's and my entrance into the always exciting world of dot-coms. Studying in the School of Fine Arts also expanded my horizons abroad, as I spent a most memorable summer
studying Art History and Italian in Rome, Italy just before Rich and I met. |
