ceremony

After all the excitement of our wedding and Hawaiian honeymoon had finally ebbed, in the summer of 2001, we started thinking more & more about starting a family. We just couldn't wait to have a bunch of little Kelly's & Rich's running all over the place!! After all, it wasn't as if we hadn't already spent plenty of couple time together, spending nearly 24/7 together since practically our "first date" on February 23, 1996.

And so... six months after our wedding (on our 2nd month of trying), on October 9, 2002, we discovered that we were going to have a baby!!!!!

And here we are after...

Planning to wait another couple days to take the unnerving Home Pregnancy Test (HPT), Rich talked me into taking it now. So early on October 9th, it was time.... Here we each are before the test!!

 Trip to Babies 'R Us

So we wanted to tell our family in an extra-special way. What we decided to do took a little planning & a little time (see below), so what did we do in the meantime?! We made our very first trip to the holy mecca of babyhood, Babies 'R Us!!!

-----> Here's Kelly standing beside a crib, feeling a little conspicuous with all the big belly gals, while I was barely out of the ++ HPT gates... hehe

Bun in the Oven

So how did we spill the beans???

Well, Kelly was especially excited to tell her mom that she was about to become a first-time GRANDMA !!! So we put on our thinking caps, and here's the wee little idea that popped into my head... (sneaky, sneaky - hehe)

I'd thought up the idea one night to announce that we had a Bun in the Oven... and what better way to do that than to send a mini-oven with a mini-bun inside... I knew I'd seen mini-oven magnets, so now it was time to find a "bun" to place inside...

Grandma's Goodie Package

Telling Kelly's big brother was another "Bun in the Oven" set, sent after we were sure mom had already received her package...

As for Rich's parents & sister, we knew that they were in the midst of a hectic & busy campaign for Rich's dad's reelection.... So we decided to wait to tell them until just after the election, which happily coincided with our first Doctor's appointment in early November. And so we sent along baby's first picture (ultrasound) in a cute frame that says "Me & My Grandma & Grandpa."

And, of course, everybody was thrilled to pieces!!! That goes without saying!!! WOoooo-HOoooo!!!!

 "Bun in the Oven"

Hunting high & low, these items were not easy to come by!!! So we took our search online... I found the mini-oven magnet with moving oven door, placed my order & awaited its arrival on my doorstop. The "bun" was another matter entirely. Searching through the world of dollhouse miniatures, we lucked out & found a perfect "bun" in a local Carmel miniature store.
